FHWA staff visit ITS Lab   November 2008
Kahaa J. Rezantes, Curtis L. Jorgenson and Nathaniel Price from US Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) visited the ITS Lab on November 18, 2008 and gave a presentation about internship and career opportunities with the FHWA Western Federal Land Highway Division (WFLHD) for undergraduate and graduate students in Civil Engineering and Urban Planning. Through the Student Temporary Experience Program (STEP), the WFLHD hires university students to fill short term staffing needs in highway construction. Students typically work during the summer months, the peak of construction season in the Pacific Northwest. This program is the primary mechanism for recruitment into entry-level positions within the WFLHD Project Delivery Branch. Through this program, students gain highway construction experience that complements academic study, provides an excellent opportunity for on-the-job experience, and prepares the student for future consideration for employment within the Federal Highway Administration and the transportation industry. A free pizza lunch was also provided for attendees at the beginning of the meeting.
