ITS Lab Mourns the Loss of Prof. Wendelin Mueller  July 2009
The ITS Lab students and faculty were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Professor Emeritus Wendelin Mueller on July 6, 2009. Wendell was an important mentor for Prof. Bertini in the founding of the ITS Lab. In the early years, Prof. Mueller was an inspiration in the sense that he maintained a strong team environment with undergraduate and graduate students in the STAR lab in Science Building 2. Prof. Bertini adapted the idea of the "lab" environment into what is now the ITS Lab. Wendell was also very kind and supportive of the expansion of the transportation program, and as search committee chair for the recruitment of Prof. Peter Dusicka, acted in a highly unselfish manner by reducing his FTE in the CEE department so that his "replacement" could be recruited. We will miss Wendell's great sense of humor, strong sense of community and his spirit of "sociality," whereby he tried to build community through social events in his lab and in the department. We send our most sincere sympathies to the Mueller family and will remember Wendell fondly (especially his great STAR lab parties and the special ancient refrigerator...)
